Cake Decoration Certificate Level 2

  • Overview of the course

    The course is designed for learners who are either working in or preparing to work in professional cake decoration roles. The course offers learners the opportunity to develop intermediate professional cake decoration skills and acquire accreditation.
    Level 2 aims to instruct the Learner in:
    • Cake decoration skills with sugar paste
    • Cake decoration skills with royal icing
    • Skills in 3D modelling
    • Cake design
    • Finishing novelty cakes
    The learner will build on their Level 1 portfolio showing working drawings of practical work, theory, hygiene, health & safety.
    Many of our learners come to study with us as our tutors have a proven track record in both competitions, LutubeÊÓƵ won 'Best College and Group Display Winner' at Cake International, and working with local bakeries with national supermarket contracts to keep up with current trends.
  • What you'll learn

    You will cover a range of topics including:
    • Royal Icing a square cake
    • Sugar pasting a 2-tier stacked cake
    • Carving & finishing a novelty cake
    • Intermediate 3D modelling.
    In addition, you will learn intermediate theory, cake design, and various skills & techniques.
  • Entry requirements

    To undertake Level 2 the learner needs to have a Level 1 certificate/award in cake decoration and a willingness to complete all assignments. Learners whose first language is not English need a full Level 2 qualification in English language to develop their portfolio.
  • How will I be assessed?

    Course evaluation is by tutors, learners will keep a handbook showing their progress and completion of each unit. Practical and design work are continually assessed by the tutor.
    All learners will complete an Individual Learning Journal which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    Learners are required to practice at home.
    • Learners are expected to provide their own materials and equipment. A list will be given to learners at the start of the course.
    • As it is intended that items produced on the course are for eating, learners are expected to wear an apron, have appropriate flat, closed footwear, and have long hair tied back.
    • There is no baking on the course.

  • Future opportunities

    On completion of the course students can look at self-employment or employment in the catering or confectionery trade. Learners completing Level 2 in Professional Cake Decoration, to a good standard, may apply for a place on the Level 3 Cake Decoration course. Students may also choose to gain additional skills through another catering or cake decoration course.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
